Is the summer event worth grinding? (any change since the patch?)

Third attempt at getting this right, so bear with me. I compared notes with a friend and we got completely different outcomes on similar hardware.

I do not want to sink more time or money into it before I understand what I am optimising for. Thanks in advance to anyone who chips in.
