I do not want to sink more time or money into it before I understand what I am optimising for. Still open to better approaches if anyone has one.

Not the answer you want, but give it a clean reinstall before assuming the hardware is at fault.

Depends on your setup, but broadly keep a note of what you changed, otherwise you cannot undo it cleanly later.

Short version: the safe move is the reversible one — you can always undo it if it makes things worse.

I went through this last month. do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.

Agreed on most of this, except the defaults are conservative on purpose, so there is usually headroom to gain.

Others may have a cleaner method.

Only partly related, but ignore the loudest advice; the boring answer is usually the correct one here.

This comes up a lot, so: the difference is real but small enough that you may not notice it while playing.

Agreed on most of this, except worth testing on a second account to rule out something profile-specific.

Speaking as someone who got it wrong initially, the community guide covers this better than I can, but the summary is to prioritise the basics first.

Agreed on most of this, except temperature is the usual culprit when performance degrades over a session.

Counterpoint: the defaults are conservative on purpose, so there is usually headroom to gain.
