[Rocket League] Overlay conflicts causing crashes — how I narrowed it down

Apologies if this has been covered — the older threads are all locked. It behaves as expected on one account and not on another, same device.

Apologies if this has been covered — the older threads are all locked. It behaves as expected on one account and not on another, same device.

The community consensus seems to have shifted twice since I last played. Feel free to tell me I have missed something obvious.

Agreed on most of this, except keep a note of what you changed, otherwise you cannot undo it cleanly later.

Let us know which part worked.

For what it is worth, if it only happens in one mode, that narrows it down considerably.

Slightly different take — the averages hide the problem; look at the one percent lows instead.

This comes up a lot, so: that behaviour is intentional, even though it is poorly explained in-game.

Agreed on most of this, except verify the files before anything else; it catches more problems than people expect.

Same boat here. nine times out of ten it is a driver or a background process, not the thing you suspect.

This is the bit people miss — it is almost always a setting rather than hardware, so try the free fixes before spending anything.

Adding to the above: the wiki number is theoretical; real results are always a bit lower.

I went through this last month. temperature is the usual culprit when performance degrades over a session.

Counterpoint: that behaviour is intentional, even though it is poorly explained in-game.

From experience, it depends heavily on your specific setup, so take any single number with a grain of salt.

Speaking as someone who got it wrong initially, the wiki number is theoretical; real results are always a bit lower.

This is the bit people miss — the safe move is the reversible one — you can always undo it if it makes things worse.

Report back once you have tried it.

This comes up a lot, so: the difference is real but small enough that you may not notice it while playing.

Speaking as someone who got it wrong initially, region and server load matter more than most guides acknowledge.

Quick correction to the above: the defaults are conservative on purpose, so there is usually headroom to gain.

Only partly related, but the averages hide the problem; look at the one percent lows instead.
