   I searched first and found three threads that all contradict each other. The default settings are clearly tuned for a different setup than mine.

   The community consensus seems to have shifted twice since I last played. Happy to be told I am overthinking it.

   I went through this last month. worth testing on a second account to rule out something profile-specific.

   That fixed it for me, at least.

   This is the bit people miss — if it only happens in one mode, that narrows it down considerably.

   Not the answer you want, but give it a clean reinstall before assuming the hardware is at fault.

   Report back once you have tried it.

   Only partly related, but it is almost always a setting rather than hardware, so try the free fixes before spending anything.

    Only partly related, but you get most of the benefit from the first adjustment; everything after that is marginal.

    Good luck, it is a common snag.

    I went through this last month. do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.

    Agreed on most of this, except nine times out of ten it is a driver or a background process, not the thing you suspect.

    Had the exact same issue. the wiki number is theoretical; real results are always a bit lower.

    Had the exact same issue. the safe move is the reversible one — you can always undo it if it makes things worse.
