   Coming back after a long break and trying to catch up. I do not want to sink more time or money into it before I understand what I am optimising for.

   What confuses me is that it behaves differently depending on the order I do things in. Curious whether that matches what everyone else is seeing.

   In my testing, nine times out of ten it is a driver or a background process, not the thing you suspect.

    I went through this last month. temperature is the usual culprit when performance degrades over a session.

    Only partly related, but you get most of the benefit from the first adjustment; everything after that is marginal.

    Agreed on most of this, except do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.

    Adding to the above: the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.

    Others may have a cleaner method.
