Speed tuning explained simply — beginner questions

Apologies if this has been covered — the older threads are all locked. The patch notes hinted at this but never actually spelled it out.

It only shows up after about twenty minutes, which made it a nightmare to reproduce. Feel free to tell me I have missed something obvious.

From experience, this changed for me after the last patch, so older threads may steer you wrong.

Depends on your setup, but broadly temperature is the usual culprit when performance degrades over a session.

Not the answer you want, but the averages hide the problem; look at the one percent lows instead.

Slightly different take — ignore the loudest advice; the boring answer is usually the correct one here.
