Speed tuning explained simply (still unresolved)

Reposting with more detail after my last thread got no traction. Turning one setting down fixed it, which raises more questions than it answers.

Still open to better approaches if anyone has one.

In my testing, if it only happens in one mode, that narrows it down considerably.

Depends on your setup, but broadly keep a note of what you changed, otherwise you cannot undo it cleanly later.
