Apex Legends — Background apps that quietly eat performance

Been chewing on this for a while, so I figured I would ask here. Once it clicked, it felt obvious, but getting there took far longer than it should have.

I will report back once I have tested it properly.

Same boat here. it depends heavily on your specific setup, so take any single number with a grain of salt.

Speaking as someone who got it wrong initially, temperature is the usual culprit when performance degrades over a session.

This is the bit people miss — the defaults are conservative on purpose, so there is usually headroom to gain.

I went through this last month. ignore the loudest advice; the boring answer is usually the correct one here.

Agreed on most of this, except verify the files before anything else; it catches more problems than people expect.

Not the answer you want, but do the cheap diagnostic first — it costs nothing and rules out half the causes.

Let us know which part worked.

Not the answer you want, but check whether an overlay is running before blaming the game itself.

In my testing, check whether an overlay is running before blaming the game itself.

This comes up a lot, so: give it a clean reinstall before assuming the hardware is at fault.

Others may have a cleaner method.

Worth checking first: that behaviour is intentional, even though it is poorly explained in-game.

Slightly different take — region and server load matter more than most guides acknowledge.

This is the bit people miss — nine times out of ten it is a driver or a background process, not the thing you suspect.
