Is Apex Legends CPU-heavy or is it just me?

Every guide I can find skips the part I am actually stuck on. The patch notes hinted at this but never actually spelled it out.

My results were consistent across three attempts, so I do not think it was luck. Feel free to tell me I have missed something obvious.
