Is Rocket League still worth starting in 2026?

Coming back after a long break and trying to catch up. The in-game explanation and the actual behaviour do not appear to match.

The patch notes hinted at this but never actually spelled it out. Happy to be told I am overthinking it.

Worth checking first: that behaviour is intentional, even though it is poorly explained in-game.

This comes up a lot, so: region and server load matter more than most guides acknowledge.
